William is a 61 year old attorney living in Florida. He was diagnosed with a thyroid goiter in 1977. The goiter is smooth and contains no tumor. He does not smoke, drink alcohol, and does not consume caffeine.

William has seen many doctors over the years. All of his thyroid tests have come back in normal ranges, but his thyroid goiter continued to get larger. The doctors he was seeing encouraged him to have surgery to have the goiter removed. However one of the higher risks of having thyroid surgery is the possibility of cutting through the nerves leading to the vocal cords during the surgery. With William being an attorney and his livelihood depending on the use of his voice, he did not see the surgery as an option.

After doing some research on thyroid goiters, he came across the research of Drs Abraham and Flechas and their work with iodine therapy in treating thyroid diseases. He contacted Dr. Flechas in North Carolina for a consultation.

Upon examination by Dr. Flechas, his thyroid goiter was measured at 28 inchs - 72 cm in circumference. New thryoid function tests were performed and once again found to be normal. Dr. Flechas explained to William the consequences of iodine deficiency and prescribed for him Iodoral - 2 tablets twice daily.

On his last follow-up visit, William's goiter was down to 26 inches - 66 cm in circumference and he had lost 22 pounds.
